a snippet of a work in progress

Painting detailed scenes of honeybee stories as of late! Here is a work in progress, a small snippet of a much larger scene…

I am so, so excited about this piece! I’ve been working secretly on it for some times and I can’t wait to put a print of it up in my shop. Despite the heat and beautiful weather, tomorrow will be spent in my painting room finishing it.

Vermont has left me totally inspired. My eyes kept roaming the countryside looking for honeybee keepers, which were all around. It was a coincidence that this painting was in progress before the trip.
Also, we went to the most magical folk art museum which has left me completely in awe and inspired too! I will post some photos of my favorite things from that very soon too. I hope tomorrow!

  1. Oh my, how I love this! I am obsessed with bee skeps and skeleton keys, so this is making me swoon. I can’t wait to see the finished masterpiece and to get my hands on a print. You create such magically beautiful pieces.

  2. Wow, it looks awesome! Can’t wait to see it all put together! And I’m really looking forward to your museum pictures. Folk art museums are indeed magical little places–I can fill whole sketchbooks there! 🙂

    Have fun with the paints!

    1. Yes indeed, a sketchbook would of been a good thing to bring! Then again, my husband was with me, and I don’t think I could make him wait around for me. But the mususm was the best (and biggest) folk place I’ve been to.
      Thanks!!!

  3. Truly lovely Sarah! I especially like the detail on her skirt, and that precious little deer… I too have been thinking of bees lately, must be in the air..

  4. I want to see the rest of the painting, Sarah! There is a magic to beekeeping, isn’t there? Have you read The Secret Life of Bees? I like how you incorporate ribbons into all your paintings. Do you wear them often yourself?
