home all day

As the snowflakes fall I have been spending some time sewing… bags mostly (although I have plans for other things). I have lots of fabrics and bits of lace and trim stashed away. I made this large tote out of pretty gray heavyweight floral fabric which I bought a few years ago and I have been admiring ever since. The fabric is heavy, a mix between canvas and denim.

It’s perfect for lugging my sketchbooks and whatnot around.

I am going to be doing a giveaway here in the next few days, to celebrate all my new readers (and “old” ones as well). Here’s a little snippet of fabric (which is a tiny hint to the theme of the giveaway)

Can you guess which painting will be featured? Another hint is that the giveaway will be wearable art. And the third hint is that it will be part vintage. Can you guess?

  1. Hi Sarah! Thanks so much for visiting with me. I can imagine that you have a lot of lovely new followers after your wonderful Artful Blogging feature, and I’m so happy for that! The bag is lovely. I still have the lovely bag you created years ago with the lovely faerie painting on it. Do you remember? Hmmmm…wearable art that is part vintage…perhaps a brooch? I think the painting is Honeybee Stories. ๐Ÿ™‚ Whatever you create as a giveaway, I am sure it will be really pretty!
Have a great day…it was so good to hear from you! Theresa

    1. yes, I do remember! I remember you bought it, that is. I can’t remember exactly what the bag looks like though…wow that was a long time ago! I used to sew sooooo much back then.
      Thank you!

  2. Oh! That bag looks perfect!!! I just love the fabric, plus it’s sturdy, which is always a good thing for totes, imho. I have a favorite bag that I made a few years back that is just the perfect size for lugging around a sketchbook and my knitting. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The adorable little bee snippet has piqued my interest! I cannot wait to see what you have up your sleeve… ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Hope you’re staying warm!

  3. Ooh–beautiful bag! And the perfect size too. It’s always so hard to find a nice, simple, sturdy bag of juuussst the right size. Making one yourself seems like the way to go!

Just to answer the question you asked on my blog, my sketchbook is the “handbook” sort as well. It’s great! Paper is thick enough for simple paint techniques and is smooth but with a nice tooth for pencil (unlike my last book, I haven’t had a lot of issues with pencil smearing in this one). I totally recommend! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks Michelle. I will definitely have to start using my handbook then! The pages look so much more absorbent than those of the moleskine sketchbook (I used to use them but now I think their sketchbook paper is HORRIBLE!!!) But I do like the moleskin watercolor books.

  4. Super cute tote! As much as I like & admire pretty purses & bags, I am most often found lugging a tote around with me everywhere. I need room for my water bottle, current reading material and three tubes of Burt’s Bees! ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. Sarah,

Two days ago I discovered you blog, whilst searching for bee skeps, and became an instant groupie. I wish that I’d found you at the very beginning, bu catching up has been a treat. Your world/blog is a visual ‘get away’….

In process of finding this lovely place, I found the perfect gift for my sis-in-law, which leads me to take a guess at the giveaway: Honeybee Stories will be the featured painting inspiration. The wearable art will be a necklace.

I’ll be visiting often, and searching for yet another perfect piece of your work.

    Peace,

    Wendy

  6. That bag is so pretty! I love that fabric. And you need something durable like that to take around heavy sketch books.
I got my copy of Artful Blogging the other day! Many congrats to you! Your article is lovely~
